Form Factors

Sentrinsic's Capacitively-Coupled Resistive Sensing (CCRS) position feedback technology is a very flexible sensor platform. The technology can be tuned in a variety of application-specific embodiments. We use a different method of applying our resistive film depending on whether the application calls for a flat form factor or a cylindrical one.

Flat form factor
For flat applications (typically electromechanical, standalone rotary, etc.), Sentrinsic employs a flat, narrow strip of resistive material along the length or arc being measured. The figure to the right shows a conceptual diagram of our linear flat form factor.

Cylindrical form factor
For cylindrical form factors (most hydraulic and pneumatic applications) our platform depends on a customer's pressure requirements. For pneumatic and low-power hydraulic applications, Sentrinsic has partnered with Polygon Company to deliver composite cylinder tubing with a conformant resistive layer built into the tube wall itself. The resulting tubes deliver embedded sensing capabilities as well as superior tubing performance with regards to ruggedness and seal wear characteristics.

For higher pressure applications, Sentrinsic has developed a composite liner approach (shown at right). The composite material is more flexible than the metal tube, allowing the metal tube to serve as the pressure vessel while still gaining electrical and seal wear benefits from the composite liner.

For special cylindrical applications that require both linear and rotary feedback in the same tube, Sentrinsic can also offer a solution.
