Example Applications

Sentrinsic's Capacitively-Coupled Resistance Sensing (CCRS) technology can be used in a variety of embodiments to deliver the desired measurement for a given application.

Electromechanical
Sentrinsic makes high performance, non-contacting position sensors in a flat form factor for use on electromechanical devices. These sensors offer the performance of encoders, but are structurally simpler and can be produced more economically.

Specifications:

  • Nonlinearity < +/- 0.25%
  • Repeatability infinity
  • Resolution 12-16 bit

Hydraulic
This is an example of the application of Sentrinsic's technology to a standard NFPA cylinder. For hydraulic cylinder manufacturers, Sentrinsic delivers magnetostrictive-type performance in a form factor that does not require expensive gun-drilling. In this case, non-contact position sensing is integrated directly into the composite cylinder wall, and the signal is led out through a coaxial, stainless steel soft-spring.

Specifications:

  • Nonlinearity < +/- 0.5%
  • Repeatability infinity
  • Resolution 12 bit

Pneumatic
This picture shows the application of Sentrinsic's technology to an ultra low friction cylinder. Sentrinsic's technology is a much simpler solution than incumbent position sensing methods, and, it is affordable enough to apply to pneumatic applications where it was previously too expensive to use position feedback. Position sensing is integrated directly into the cylinder, and the resistive coating is applied to the inner cylinder via an economical dip technique.

Specifications:

  • Nonlinearity < +/- 1%
  • Repeatability infinity
  • Resolution 12 bit

Custom - Standalone sensor
Here is a standalone sensor developed by Sentrinsic. The performance is similar to LVDTs, but it has the manufacturability of a linear potentiometer. The lack of an internal wiper yields long life and excellent repeatability. And, the simpler structure yields cost and space savings. This sensor works with standard LVDT signal conditioning electronics or Sentrinsic-specific electronics.

Specifications:

  • Nonlinearity < +/- 0.25%
  • Repeatability infinity
  • Resolution 16 bit
